Treat – Yourself to Trail Runs Before the Snow Flies

The  first annual Fall Back Blast Trail Run presented by Mayo Clinic Health System.

A fun but challenging trail run using the single track and ski trails of Eau Claire’s finest County Park. Your distance choices include a 50K, 25K and 12.5K. The race is limited to the first 300 registrants, so sign up before it’s too late!

Workout Warrior Wednesday – Meet the Fitnatic – Holly Schellin

This Mother of 4 credits her beach body to what else, Beachbody workouts. Her motto – Lead by Example.

What makes me passionate about the activity or sport you participate in?

I am very passionate about my Beachbody workouts.  There are so many reasons why they fit into my lifestyle and why I have fallen in love with the programs.  Whether it be Insanity, the P90X series, Focus T25, etc., these programs all deliver AMAZING results.  The process is very simple.  All I need to do is follow the workout schedule and nutrition plan provided with the program, tailored to the results I am looking to achieve.

I am truly amazed with how my fitness level has skyrocketed since I started doing the programs.  I do the workouts as my daily exercise routine, but they aid in training for other physical activities and sports I participate in.  Somewhere along the way, the little changes to my workout routine and nutrition became lifestyle changes.  I am truly in the best shape of my life!

Because the workouts are done at home, I can completely eliminate that drive to the gym.  Being a busy mother of 4, time is valuable.  Most mornings I roll out of bed, throw on my workout clothes, and get to business.  On days when that just cannot happen, workouts are much easier to squeeze in because all I need to do is pop in the DVD and push play.  With that said, some of programs have workouts that can be completed in less than 30 minutes.  Time is not an excuse!

Most of all, I love these programs because they are so much fun!  The workouts have lots of variety, the trainers on the videos keep me smiling, and I know that I am getting a great workout.

How did I get involved?  When did I start?

My real obsession with Beachbody didn’t start until after the birth of one of my sons.  I was bored with my treadmill and looking for an at-home workout that would help me lose the weight I had gained during the pregnancy.  That’s when I turned to Insanity.  Believe me, it did the job.  Not only did I get in shape, I learned so much.  I learned that these workouts could shape my body in ways I never imagined, that they could radically improve my level of fitness benefitting all athletic activities that I participate in, and that I could have so much fun working out.  Since then, I have accumulated many programs and love them all!

What motivates you to continue?

My motivation is the people in my life.  My motto is ‘Lead by Example’.  First, I want to be an example for my children.  Those little eyes are always watching!  I want them to learn the importance of exercising and eating healthy so they are able to make smart decisions on their own.  Also, I want everyone who I interact with to realize that a healthy lifestyle is attainable.  If they see me making healthy decisions, perhaps it will motivate them to do the same.

What is your favorite body part?

My shoulders are my favorite body part. (editors note: we agree, see above photo) I love their strength and definition.  The best lifting exercises are those that make my shoulders burn.

Favorite food to indulge in post workout?

I always have a protein shake post workout.  It includes chocolate whey, unsweetened cocoa powder, spinach, and berries.  I look forward to it every day!

What tips would you share with someone interested in learning more?

The Beachbody programs have taken my fitness level to a place I never imagined.  My love for the programs has motivated me to share my experiences and introduce the Beachbody programs to others.  If anyone is interested in learning more, they can email me at hollybeachbody@gmail.com.  My hope is to provide support, motivation, and accountability to those who are seeking it. Meet Rochelle Jacobs

Owner of The Pole Barn Studio, Stillwater MN

The Pole Barn Studio offers unique classes in Pole, Ballet, Silks, Flex and Dance Fitness designed to provide a new and innovative way to stay in shape, improve self-esteem and have fun while working out. It is also an ideal location to host your next Birthday Party, Bachelorette Party, or Ladies Night out!

Rochelle is a mother of two (19 year old daughter and 12 year old son) and has lived in Stillwater almost 20 years.

Rochelle says, “fitness was always something I felt I had to do, but never really wanted to do, until I found Pole and Silks.”

What makes you passionate?

Like many other young girls, my mom enrolled me in dance class when I was 3 years old. I took ballet, jazz and tap until I was 18 years old. I was a cheerleader briefly in high school but beyond that, dance was my only sport. I was good at dance and extremely flexible.

After turning 18, the only dance options I had (as an adult) were either one class offered to all ages or to move on to other dancing options like aerobics. I never really found anything that was offered that made me want to get up and go to class. Trust me; I tried boxing, boot camps, ice skating, aerobics, Zumba, yoga, swimming, and much more. I didn’t feel connected with any of them until I tried my first pole dance class. After my 2nd class, I ordered a pole for home and a few months into it I had lost 20 lbs., felt motivated and had a blast learning new moves.  Within 2 months I had my splits back, felt great about my body, had renewed confidence and I was hooked.

When did you start?

3 years ago I was introduced to Pole Dancing, but I only started Aerial silks in April. The silks have been a passion of mine from the minute I first saw them on TV. I was flipping channels one day and stumbled across a show I had never watched (and will never watch again) called Dance Moms. They had taken the girls to Vegas and were teaching them on the Silk Hammocks. After watching the girls fly in the air and perform tricks – I knew it looked hard, but I thought I could do it.  I started researching Silk Hammocks on YouTube but only found a handful of videos. I realized then that this was something I needed to bring women in my area and offer them this amazing new method of exercise.  After my first lesson (from a Aerial Master, we brought into the studio for 2 months of training) I started to fall madly in love. I discovered my body could easily maneuver on the silks and that not only was it graceful and challenging, but it was so much fun! Now I teach 3 times a week and practice every chance I get. My goal is to share my love of Silks with everyone I can.

Silks are offered Mondays at 7:00, Thursdays at 7:00 and Saturdays at 11:00.  Drop-in classes are $20 and packages start at $49 for 5 classes in a membership plan or 5 classes for $75. The class sizes are small to allow for individual attention.

What tips would you share with someone interested in learning more?

You don’t need to be strong, fit, or young to do aerial silks (although that’s what you normally see in the media). Women of all shapes, sizes and ages can do the silks. Our silks are called “hammocks” which means they have a closed hoop on the bottom verses a regular silk that has two open ended pieces of fabric. The Hammocks are a bit easier to learn on and to make you feel more secure. Although they also are extremely challenging and give you a great workout they also give you the feeling of being fierce and flying around, stretching your body and having a great time!
