Saturday, January 31 – Sauk Rapids

The 2015 ICEMAN is a super fun winter themed 5k adventure obstacle race where participants will run, walk, climb, and crawl through the one and only truly challenging winter themed obstacle race course in the country. Racers will encounter 15 challenging man made obstacles as well as all of the naturally occurring obstacles that we have found on the course. We use every square inch of all of our courses and find every hill, gorge, hole, and natural obstacle to put in your path on your way through the manmade obstacles and to the finish line. Once at the finish line, if you can still hold your arms up, join everyone inside for a warm beverage, some good food, and awards, while you exchange war stories with your fellow Icemen! No Iceman goes home without some great memories, and we promise that you will be as soggy, sore, and tired as humanly possible! Plus, you’ll have bragging rights and some really awesome race swag!

We wish it was here so we could run it!  Notre Dame – The Nun Run is this weekend. Looks fun ladies!

This week is filled with tough athletes – discover your inner athlete.




Her climb back to the podium after injury should be enough to get you moving this weekend, but if it’s not, below are a few more ideas.


Red Bull Crashed Ice

The national spotlight is on Saint Paul this weekend. The fabulous Red Bull Crashed Ice returns at the Cathedral of Saint Paul. If you have not attended, you need to see this event. Men and women compete from around the world.


Championship race is Saturday, January 24.

Insiders Tips:

If you know your way around Crocus Hill, skip the shuttle and park in the neighborhood. Enjoy the architecture and beautiful walk to race site.

The Cathedral opens its’ doors to allow spectators to warm up.

Want the experience but could care less about who wins the title? Check it out on Friday for the finals instead, less crowds – same jaw dropping event.


Resolve to be Tough

After viewing the inspiring athletes at Red Bull, go home and map out your year of tough mudder races. Check one out in a different state!

1. We are taking over a brewery!

That’s right!  Join the Wellness Project on Saturday, January 17 for a high energy

Tabata class, featuring The Wellness Project Fitness Blogger, Katie Kubes.

9 a.m. – Bent Brewstillery

Work up a sweat and stay for a pint. You deserve it.


2. Get out and enjoy the Cold!

Winter Frolic

North West Company Fur Post, Pine City MN

Jan. 17, 2015 – Noon to 4 p.m.

Fee: $9 adults; $7 seniors and college students, $6 children; $2 discount for MNHS members.

Shake off the winter blues and enjoy the outdoors by tossing a curling stone on the ice, playing a round of snow snake, snowshoeing along the nature trails and learning about the North West Company and winter travel during the fur trade. Guests can also relax indoors by the blazing fire, sip a cup of cocoa and watch the outdoor festivities from the sun-soaked visitor center.

3. Yukon races that will definitely warm everyone up.

Saturday, January 17 – The Yukon Mile * The Yukon 3-Mile Run * The Yukon 3-Mile Snowshoe Race * Little Yukoners 1/2-Mile Run

Location of Event:  Boatworks Marina on the western shores of White Bear Lake.  It will start and finish at Keep-Zimmer VFW Post 1782, 4496 Lake Avenue.

The Course: The courses for all three events are on the lake in a triangle formation.

Twin Cities Marathon Summit Challenge

This race series commits you to four races throughout the year, and guarantees you a spot at the annual Twin Cities Ten Mile.

  • Valentine’s Day TC 5K, presented by Fleet Feet Marathon Sports (February 14)
  • Hot Dash 10 Mile, presented by Fleet Feet Marathon Sports (March 7)
  • Red, White & Boom! TC Half Marathon (July 4)
  • Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon (October 4)

Feeling the call of the great north? Registration opens January 15 @ 10 am for the Caribou Highlands Ultra Marathon.

Superior 50KM Trail Race Description and History: The Superior 50 KM Trail Race is an out-and-back (100% trail) ultramarathon which traverses the Sawtooth Mountain Range on the Superior Hiking Trail in the far reaches northern Minnesota .  The course parallels Lake Superior, the greatest freshwater lake in the world, climbs to near 2000′ peaks with breath-taking vistas of the lake and inland forests and crosses whitewater rivers and serene streams while meandering through mystic Boreal forests.  The race starts and finishes at Caribou Highlands Resort in Lutsen Minnesota. Runners will have access to 4 aid stations between the start and finish.

A Fierce, Fit & Fabulous You in 2015!

The Wellness Project’s guide to small changes you can take in the New Year for big impact. Pick one or two, stick with then add another.


Water. Drink a glass of water 45 minutes before you do anything else in the a.m. (even before you brush your teeth). For improved digestion, skin, and metabolism.


Apple Cider Vinegar. You know you should be incorporating it into your diet. It lowers blood sugar, alleviates indigestion, and aids in curing the hangover.


Turmeric. The new wonder herb. This anti-inflammatory power player is chalk full of antioxidant power. Great for joint strength.


Bone Broth. Bone broth is showing up on the menus of East coast coffee shops. Grandma was right, chicken soup is a cure-all.


Coconut Oil. As a teeth whitener, a cholesterol controller, a skin softener, the list goes on and on. Swap it out in place of olive oil. Sneak a teaspoon in your smoothie.


Green Tea. It’s a classic swap out. Switch up your sugary coffee for green tea. Bonus, it’s a weight loss aid.


Try something new. Hot yoga, run your first 5k, learn to cycle (with shoe clips); rock climb, find a new trail. Move that body. Use the Wellness Project’s weekly blog as your Fitspiration.
