Yoga at Tettegouche State Park

Free – Wednesday mornings

Namaste! Tettegouche State Park held its first FREE Lake Superior yoga session this morning, and will continue to offer free Wednesday morning sessions for 8 weeks.

The class consists of gentle postures and slow movements to help the body get back in balance. A mat, blanket and water bottle are recommended. The sessions are led by Kim Josephson, a RYT500 and Certified Yoga Therapist from the International Yoga Institute Yoga North.

Avid mountain bikers are buzzing about the state-of-the-art network of mountain bike trails at Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area at Crosby, near the Brainerd Lakes area. This 22-mile trail network winds through a landscape created by 70 years of iron ore mining. This man-made terrain consists of old mining pits and tall piles of ruddy rock excavated from the pits. Nature is working on reclaiming the area: water has filled the pits and turned them into 15 deep lakes, and trees and shrubs have taken root on the rugged landscape. As it turns out, it’s a landscape perfect for crafting a maze of trails to conquer by bike.

1. Lola’s Half Marathon! Saturday, June 6.

Lola’s Lake Waconia Half Marathon promises to provide one of the most scenic race routes in the greater Twin Cities area.  It starts near City Square Park in lovely Waconia, weaves through the city then winds around beautiful Lake Waconia where you’ll catch your breath and to the finish at the park.

There’s something for everyone:  the half marathon, 2-person 1/2 marathon relay, a 10 mile, the 5k run/walk that is dog friendly.  Wrap it up by attending the fun “after-party” at Lola’s Lakehouse with lunch, live music, photo opportunities and more…only two blocks from the finish line.

2. Trinona! June 6-7 – Winona-

There are few places on this planet that are more perfectly suited to host a triathlon than Winona, Minnesota. With every stroke, pedal and stride during Life Time Tri Trinona, you’ll encounter incredible views and beautiful terrain. It will begin at dawn, as you set up in transition in front of Lake Winona and look up to see Sugarloaf Bluff rising above the town below. Following the swim, you will begin your journey into the true calling card for this event, the Mississippi River Bluff Country.

But there is a price to pay for all this ambiance. The terrain that makes this race so inviting is the very same terrain that makes this event one of the most challenging triathlons in the Midwest.

3. Sunday Morning Yoga Sunday, June 7 –10:30 a.m. – Boom Island. Yoga in the Park will continue.  If the weather cooperates, we will all meet at Boom Island Park in NE Minneapolis.  The class can be found near the bike path next to the river.  There is no obligation to attend this class, however I will accept voluntary donations to help cover costs of the meetup site and other expenses related to the group.  No experience is necessary as any and all levels of experience is welcome.
